Dental Implants

What is involved in the procedure?

Placing the dental implant requires one or two visits. The time needed for each procedure varies based on the individual needs of the patient. Initially, the screw is fixed to the patient’s jaw, and becomes naturally fused in time. Afterwards, the abutment is set in the screw and the crown is placed on top of this. In some cases, both of these procedures are able to be completed in one day.

What are the advantages of dental implants?

  • Natural appearance. As they are securely fixed to your jaw, they look, feel, and even function as a normal tooth would.
  • Long lasting. When properly cared for, they can last for a lifetime. Other methods tend to have shorter lifespans.
  • Easier maintenance, speaking, and eating. As with your natural teeth, you are able to easily bite into food without having to worry that the implants may be damaged or fall out. Looking after them is easy too; just brush and floss as you would with your other teeth
  • Look after your healthy teeth. Unlike a bridge, there is no need to grind down any healthy teeth. These adjacent teeth are also not relied upon to secure the replacement tooth. An implant will also protect against other teeth shifting and deterioration of the jawbone, which can happen when teeth are lost.

Could I get dental implants?

If you have lost one or more teeth, dental implants might be a great choice for you. Though many patients may be able to get dental implants, heavy smoking and certain medical conditions or medications may impact whether this is an applicable option for you.

To understand whether dental implant placement is suitable for you, we will need to undertake an oral exam and discuss your health. It may be that we need to take some X-rays or perform a 3D CT scan.

Our surgical team have extensive experience in dental implants, and we are passionate about sharing our expertise with our patients. To learn more about the procedures we offer or to schedule a consultation, we look forward to hearing from you.
